History of
the Rolf Logo

Rolfing Structural Integration is an original and scientifically validated system of body restructuring and movement education. It releases the body's segments - legs, torso, arms, etc. - from lifelong patterns of tension and allows gravity to realign them. By doing so, it balances the body. Through a careful, progressive manipulation of the body's ubiquitous organ of shape and structure, the myofascial web, a structural reorganization can take place in our bodies. The technique that I use enables me to work within the comfort zone of each client even when the tension pattern is deep within the body.

When this woven fabric of fascia is well balanced, gravity can do its job in allowing groundedness below and lift above. Gravity is among the most powerful forces affecting our bodies. Working with it instead of fighting against it (in misalignment) can have significant effects both biologically and psychologically.

The strength of Rolfing lies in its unique holistic approach to the body's structural integrity. Through a progressive series of sessions (usually 10) a client will experience step-by-step improvements in their entire body. Since the entire body is addressed instead of just a localized area of pain, improvements invariably last much longer and become a new reality.

A Rolfed body stands and moves with greater ease, surety and fluidity. For this reason, Rolfing isn't just a vigorous "deep-tissue" massage. A massage therapist is concerned primarily with the relief of tension. A Rolfer wants to change the structure of your body to correct the sources of tension, so that the tension is unnecessary.

Though Rolfing is more commonly known to body workers, dancers, marathon runners, practitioners of yoga, tai chi, qi gong, pilates, etc., people from all backgrounds are now seeking it out to help them reach their personal goals.
